ALL STARDirector: Mr. Paul Sheppard (psheppard@sjpa.com) Congratulations to the Boys U16 metro Strikers for winning their bracket at the recent mega tournament in CBN. After a couple of tough losses on day one, to Burin and Gander, the boys bounced back on Saturday to dominate Clarenville 8-0 and then the Goulds 6-0. That put them in a rematch with Clarenville for the championship on Sunday and this time the Clarenville team provided more of a challenge. Clarenville scored first at the 14th minute mark, then CBS tied it up on a goal by Tony Pomroy at about the 35th minute. In the second half, Brad Greenslade scored what proved to be the winner at the 60th minute mark for a 2-1 CBS win. Honors went to Joel Payne for the Hardhat Award, Brad Greenslade, Most Spirited Player and Ryan Power, Most Valuable Player. The entire roster contributed to the team's success as we suffered a slew of injuries and each and every player stepped up and accepted the challenge. Justin Broderick suffered what proved to be a broken toe in the first game, but came back and played on it in game two. Brandon Snow injured an ankle and Geoffrey Campell strained a calf muscle. Nick Stratton also injured an ankle on day one, but continued to play through the pain for the next three games. All of the boys that were injured continued to play in some capacity for as long as they were able. All in all it was a gutsy effort by the entire roster. Again congratulations to the boys for a job well done."
The U14 Girls B won the D Championship at Corner Brook! The team defeated Stephenville 6-1, tied HVGB 1-1 and beat Happy valley GooseBay 3-2. In the game vs Happy valley GooseBay CBS was winning 2-0 but Happy valley GooseBay tied with 7 min to go then CBS scored with 2 min left. It was very exciting and girls did well. HVGB was a quality side and every player could handle the ball well but we had a fabulous back line anchored by Meagan Meadus as sweeper. CBS also had 2 serious injuries- Nicole Reid broke her ankle and Kelsey Myler hurt her knee so we had lost 2 great players.
