CBS BU16 Metro Strikers Soccer Team Claims Gold

The CBS Metro Strikers recently captured the BU16 Metro League Championship with a 2 - 1 win over the St. John's BU14"A" team. Mitch King put the Strikers up 1 - 0 with a beautiful header early in the second half. St. John's tied the game with 10 minutes to go on a penalty kick. The championship game appeared to be headed to overtime, until Ian Martin gathered a nice pass inside the penalty area and placed a low shot to the back of the net. One minute later the celebration was on. CBS keeper, Jordan Berniquez made several great saves during the game to help the Strikers to the win.

Members of the Championship team are:

Trevor Fleming, Ian Martin, Jordan Berniquez, Mitch King, Brady Reid, Adam Scott, David Haines, Geoff Campbell, Josh Cole, Evan Slaney, Shane Tobin, Ryan Power, Zach Hynes, Ryan Baker, Josh Horwood, Mitch Smith, Mark Richards, Josh Cole, Justin Broderick, Keegan Lewis, Mike Stone. All Star Policy

GENERAL POLICY

1. The Conception Bay South Soccer Association (the Association) will maintain an All Star program for players who have registered for House League membership.
2. Players will only be eligible for the All Star program provided they have no outstanding fees owed to the Association.
3. Fees for Tryouts and the Winter Training Program will be set by the Association no later than November 15th of the Tryout year.
4. Fees for the Summer All Star program will be set by the Association no later than April 15th of the year of competition. The fee will include the price of jersey, shorts and socks.
5. The All Star program will be available to players between the ages of 9 and 18. Exceptions to this will only be considered upon written application to the Board of the Association and decided following a technical assessment of the player(s) in question.
6. Rules governing the conduct of players and playing rules in the All Star program will be as per the League the teams are registered and if not addressed by that League will then default to the rules of the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association.

TRYOUTS

1. The Association will conduct tryouts for 'A' All Star pools by the end of October of each year.
2. Those who are not selected for the 'A' pools will go into the 'B' pool and will practice in that pool provided numbers are sufficient.
3. The format of the Tryouts will be determined by the Association.
4. All Star tryouts shall be advertised locally and on the Association's website.
5. The Association will conduct tryouts for 'B' teams no later than May 20th of each competition year.
6. No less than 20 players shall be chosen for all 'A' pools for practice through the winter. Any exception to this rule will only be considered by the Board upon written application and an outline of the reasons why there should be a change. The Boards decision will be final.
7. All Star pools will be chosen by the approved coaching staff for that division's 'A' team along with the Director of All Star from the Board of the Association (or the Director's designee). If coaches are not in place in time the Board will appoint a panel of coaches to do the selections for the affected pool.

U8 SELECT PROGRAM

1. In June of each year the Association will identify players in the U8 program for selection to a team which will compete on behalf of the Association in scheduled U8 tournaments. The selections will be made through the help of the House League coaches for the division and the Technical Director of the Association. Fees for any team selection or tournament will be set by the Association.
2. Coaching of the U8 Select teams would ideally be done by House League coaches from that division who have a Community Coaching certificate.

ALL STAR FORMATS FOR SUMMER

1. The All Star Program for the U10 age group will result in balanced teams.
2. The All Star Program for all age groups, other than U10, will be divided into 'A' and 'B' teams.
3. In the event there is a third team in any division that team will be balanced with the 'B' team.
4. All 'A' All Star teams will be required to play in competition at the next age level in the 'B' division for the summer program.
5. All 'A' teams will be finalized no earlier than April 20th of each competition year. Any change to this will be considered by the Board of Directors of the Association upon written application by the team.
6. All 'B' teams will be finalized no later than May 25th of each competition year.
7. All final selections of all teams must be approved by the Board of Directors of the Association provided there is agreement from the Coaching Staff, All Star Director and the Associations Technical Director.
8. There will be no 'alternates' named for any team. Call ups to fill vacancies on a team will be as per the 'Call Up Policy'.
9. All members of our club teams must exhibit good sportsmanship on or off the field and not engage in any conduct that would damage the reputation of the Association.
10. There will be a 0 tolerance policy for any abuse to referees. All Coaches/Manager's and Player's must abide by this policy. Reports will be filed after each game and disciplinary action will be taken in reference to the team involved.

TEAM STAFF

1. All Star teams must have a staff consisting of at least - Head Coach, Assistant Coach and Manager.
2. The Coaching Staff of an All Star team must carry the necessary qualifications required if that team were to reach its highest potential. If the team is in a division that leads to a National Championship the staff must be qualified to coach the team to that level. Qualifications for all coaches will include a minimum Youth Coaches course. For coaches of teams in divisions U14 and older the minimum will be a Senior Coaches course.
3. All coaching staff must have attended the NLSA Harassment seminar.
4. At least one member of the coaching staff must be able to administer basic CPR.
5. All coaches are encouraged to attend referee training

Notice will be placed on the Association's website and advertised in the local newspaper. Those coaches may put forward a full staff at that time if they wish, but are not required.
7. Head Coaches should be in place for the scheduled Try Out process. Full coaching staff for teams should be in place before the scheduled Winter Training begins.
8. The Association will ensure that coaches are in place for all divisions to ensure the continuance of the programs.
